Trentavis Friday of Cherryville and the Gastonia Jaguars Track Club won the 200 and 400 meters last weekend at the Region 16 Junior Olympics Championships.
Trentavis Friday won two events to lead the Gastonia Jaguars Track Club at the North Carolina USA Track and Field Region 16 Junior Olympics Championships last weekend in Greensboro.
Friday won the 200 meters in the boys age 17-18 division with a meet-record time of 21.10, beating the previous record of 21.13 set in 2007 by Antonio Sales.
Friday also won the 400 meters, crossing the line in 47.29 seconds.
The meet was held June 20-23 at North Carolina A&T State University. The top five finishers in each event advanced to the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics Track and Field Championships, set for July 22-28, also at North Carolina A&T State University.
